It also struck a water storage tank of another house nearby. Kampong Melayu and Kampong Rajah were under four feet of water. The Rawang new village was flooded when the Sungei Rawang overflowed its banks. Several quarters of the Malayan Cement employees were affected by the flood. The Straits Times, 25 December 1963, Page 10 SHARE MARKET IS QUIET ON EVE OF HOLIDAY From Our Market Correspondent …………………………… COLLIERIES: In his annual report, the chairman of Malayan Collieries, Mr. A. E. Llewellyn, says although it is not possible to set out the ultimate financial position, as certain property assets could add a little to the assets, there appears to be no likelihood of additional liabilities arising and the directors therefore consider that most of the surplus on profit and loss account should now be capitalized and a further repayment of capital made. A notice of an extraordinary general meeting to vote on the necessary resolutions has been sent to shareholders and if these are passed and subject to approval by the courts the sum of $343,340 out of the then increased capital, equivalent to $1 per share, will be refunded. Repayment Apart from the capital repayment account there are only small changes in the balance sheet whilst the carry forward from the profit and loss account increased slightly to $279,813. Since the November 30, 1962 when leases over almost all the land then remaining to the company were surrendered, it has been free from its previous responsibilities as an active mining concern and those which it had accepted after operations ceased were for the general benefit of the people of Batu Arang. The one remaining substantial building on land still belonging to the company is in process of being transferred to a semi-charitable organisation which has the intention of rehabilitating it and putting it to residential use. The general housing continues to be used by the people living in what is now the Batu Arang Town Board area but it is no longer a company responsibility.
