PROPOSED SELANCOR CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. [Articles] Eastern Daily Mail and Straits Morning Advertiser, 2 July 1907, Page 3 A meeting of 22 European merchants and others interested in commerce was held on 29th June at Kula Lumpur in the new premises of the Straits Trading Co., kindly lent by Mr. Nutt for the occasion. The following firms were represented: The Straits Trading Company; John Little and Co.; Whittall and Co: and: A K E Hampshire and Co; A C Harper and Co. McAlister and Co; Zacharias and Co. Messrs Baxendale and Devitt; Whyte, Hemmy and Mitchell; Wanger and Son; Gunn and Co. Huttenbach and Co.; Federal Dispensary, and Malay Press Co; there were also present Messers G Cumming G Kester, W. Walsh, W. Nicholas and J A Russell. It was decided to form a Selangor Chamber of Commerce, the question of native members being left open. The meeting elected a provisional chairman and committee of four to draw up a constitution and set of rules to place before a subsequent meeting. Mr. G Cumming was the selected chairman, and Messrs. Robson, Nutt, Sander and Hampshire the committee. Malay Mail.

23 October 1907 Application to the Resident from J. A. Russell and A.S. Baxendale for prospecting licences for 592 acres of land in Petaling. “ Mr Baxendale holds no mining land in Selangor, Mr. Russell is registered as holder of 159 acres on which there are employed 220 coolies… he has one or two other applications under consideration including one for a prospecting licence over 800 acres lying between Kopong and Damansara. I recommend that Mr. Baxendale as prior applicant be given preference, and that Mr. Russell be offered a prospecting licence over the available balance..”

19 August 1907 Application to the Resident from J. A. Russell for 5 acres mining land at Sungei Puron ,Semenyih. “ Mr. Russell owns in this district 100 acres with 103 coolies.”
